The Escherichia coli (E. coli) Test is used to detect the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria in clinical or environmental samples. While many strains of E. coli normally live harmlessly in the intestines, certain strains can cause infections affecting the digestive tract, urinary tract, bloodstream, or other parts of the body.

• Packaging Instructions: Collect the specimen type requested by your healthcare provider (stool, urine, blood, or other body fluid).
  Use a sterile, leak-proof container provided by the laboratory.
  Ensure the sample is clearly labeled with the patient's full name, age, specimen type, and collection date.
  Deliver the specimen to the laboratory as soon as possible after collection. If there is a delay, follow the laboratory's storage instructions.


• Other Instructions: If a stool sample is required, avoid contaminating it with urine or toilet water.
  For a urine sample, collect a clean-catch midstream specimen unless instructed otherwise.
  Inform your healthcare provider if you have recently taken antibiotics, as they may affect the test results.
  Follow any specific collection instructions provided for your specimen type to ensure accurate results.
  If antibiotic susceptibility testing is requested, results may take an additional 24–48 hours after the bacteria have been identified.
