If you have a persistent cough, unexplained weight loss, fever, night sweats, or have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB), a Tuberculosis Test can help detect the infection early. Tuberculosis is a contagious bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, most commonly affecting the lungs, although it can also involve other parts of the body.

• Packaging Instructions: A sputum sample is the most commonly required specimen for pulmonary TB testing.
  Collect an early morning, deep cough sputum sample into a sterile, leak-proof sputum container. Avoid submitting saliva.
  Ensure the container is tightly closed and clearly labeled with the patient's full name, age, and collection date.
  Deliver the sample to the laboratory as soon as possible after collection. If there is a delay, store and transport the specimen according to laboratory guidelines.
  For other specimen types (such as tissue, body fluids, or blood), follow your healthcare provider's or laboratory's collection instructions.


• Other Instructions: If you're providing a sputum sample, rinse your mouth with clean water before collection, but do not use mouthwash or toothpaste immediately beforehand.
  Try to produce sputum from deep within your lungs rather than saliva from your mouth.
  Inform your healthcare provider if you are currently taking or have recently completed treatment for tuberculosis.
  Wear a face mask if you have a persistent cough when visiting the laboratory to help reduce the risk of spreading infection.
  If your test result is positive, follow your healthcare provider's recommendations promptly, as tuberculosis is treatable with appropriate medication and follow-up care.
